Frequently asked questions
Where do the prices come from?
From the receipts of all users. Every scan delivers prices per product and store, which flow anonymized into the shared price comparison. Coinchi shows you how old a price is and whether it comes from your own receipts or from the community — estimates are marked with ≈.
Can others see what I buy?
No. Only prices per product and store go into the comparison, never who bought what and when. Your receipts themselves stay private unless you share them with your household.
How does the shopping list help me save?
For every item on your list, Coinchi shows the best known offer and the store where your whole shopping costs the least — with distance if you like. The more receipts the community scans, the more complete the comparison gets.
What does a barcode scan do?
Coinchi shows product data such as ingredients and allergens from public product databases (Open Food Facts and others) and warns you about the allergens you selected for your household. If nobody knows the product, you can add it for everyone with a photo of the ingredient list.
What does Coinchi cost?
The basic features — scanning receipts and barcodes, price comparison, shopping lists, pantry and monthly overview — are free. Detailed statistics by product, store and VAT belong to Coinchi Premium, which is currently in preparation.
Which devices does Coinchi run on?
As a web app in any browser. The Android and iOS apps are currently in closed beta testing and are coming soon to Google Play and the App Store — your data stays in sync on all devices.
What happens to my receipt photos?
For automatic text recognition, the photos go encrypted to the AI service MiniMax (Singapore, processing in the USA) and are deleted on our side after 30 days. The extracted data (items, prices, store) stays on our servers in Germany until your account is deleted. Please cover sensitive details such as card numbers before scanning.
Can I export or delete my data?
Yes, any time: in the app under Profile or by e-mail. Your account and all related data can be removed completely — details under Delete account.
